OUR TOP PRIORITY - OUR GUESTS: COVID-19 update and cancellation policy

Sustainability at The Dixon

At The Dixon, we’ve embarked on a remarkable journey towards sustainability. Our goal is clear: to become one of the premier sustainable hotels in London. We firmly believe that the worlds of hospitality and sustainability can coexist harmoniously, and we’re dedicated to proving it. Our award-winning journey has been paved with green intentions, fuelled by a commitment to our planet and our guests.

Our Journey to Green Key

The Green Key award has been a guiding star on our path to sustainability. This prestigious accolade doesn’t just honour sustainability; it teaches hotels like us how to make it a reality. With its structured framework, sustainability policies, and well-documented action plans, Green Key provides the roadmap to eco-friendly practices in hospitality. For us, it’s not just an award; it’s a commitment to a better future.

The hospitality industry contributes up to 15% of UK greenhouse gas emissions, roughly 8 million tonnes. By joining hands with Green Key, we aim to be a part of the solution, reducing our carbon footprint and making a positive impact on the environment.

What Changes have we made?

Although we’ve just begun our sustainability journey, The Dixon has already made significant strides. One of our key initiatives is combating food waste, so we’ve partnered with TooGoodToGo to offer our surplus food at discounted prices, ensuring our delicious pastries from Shakedown Cafe don’t go to waste.

Another major achievement has been the elimination of single-use plastics. We’ve bid farewell to plastic condiments and shifted to balsa wood tableware, completely eradicating single-use plastics from The Dixon. This transformation aligns with our commitment to a greener future and improved waste management.

Furthermore, we’re immensely proud of our partnerships for locally sourced ingredients like James Knight and Druid Street bakery. These partnerships allow us to source fresh, local produce, reducing our carbon footprint while enhancing the quality of our offerings and supporting local communities.

Finally, one of our proudest achievements is the installation of our new beehives, that provide up to 100 mini jars of fresh honey to our guests at The Dixon. With thousands of bees, this allows us to source more fresh ingredients to match the highest quality that we provide to our guests.

Our Thoughts and Vision for the future

Our primary aim is to contribute to a sustainable future for our planet and our guests. As Yanal Tarazi, our Sales Director, eloquently puts it, “This is one of the most important causes of our time…Today, our clients and guests choose where to stay based on the choices we make as an eco- hotel. It’s a collective responsibility we wholeheartedly embrace”.

At The Dixon, our sustainability targets mirror the best industry standards, as championed by Marriott:

Achieving a 14% reduction in water intensity.

Attaining a 45% reduction in landfill waste.

Aiming for a 50% reduction in food waste.

Striving for a minimum of 30% renewable electricity usage.

Working toward sustainable certification and LEED certification.

Ensuring responsible sourcing across various aspects, from paper products to seafood, while localising 50% of our produce.

Our future is green, and our vision is clear: to be a model of sustainability in the hospitality sector. We’re committed to meeting these objectives and leaving a lasting legacy of eco-friendly hotel luxury at The Dixon.
